Home Internet Discounts And Offers

Home Internet Discounts

It has several names, from the World Wide Web to the Internet to just “the Net,” but there is no question that online access has changed significantly over the past few decades. Internet for home was unheard of in the not-so-distant past yet, today, it is almost unheard of for a home not to have internet access. So, how did we get from something that was considered a wave of the future not so long ago to today’s world where finding a good home internet service provider became a necessity?

The Beginning of the Internet

Long before the technology we know today existed, scientists had already predicted worldwide networks of information. Paul Otlet and Vannevar Bush conceived of a searchable storage system for books as early as the 1930s. It was not until the early 1960s when J.C.R. Licklider popularized the idea of a network of computers while working at MIT. Not long after that, computer scientists developed packet switching which allowed electronic data to be transferred easily. This was the foundation for the modern internet, yet the need for a home internet service provider was still a long way off.

First Working Internet

The Advanced Research Projects Network Agency (ARPANET), funded by the United States Department of Defense, was the first working prototype of today’s World Wide Web. Using the packet switching capability, ARPANET allowed multiple computers to communicate on a single network. After scientists Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf developed the Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol, better known as TCP/IP in the late 1970s, data could be transmitted between multiple networks. ARAPANET adopted TCP/IP in 1983 and a network of networks was developed. Internet for home became a reality when computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, the most common means of accessing data online using websites and hyperlinks.

Internet Costs

Today, having internet for home is a necessity. Children need the service to do homework, you need it to check your bank account and pay bills. The advent of social media has led to many people reconnecting with friends and family through the internet as well. The growth of the internet has also changed the working world somewhat as many people are now able to work from home using wi-fi connections that allow for video conferencing, instant messaging services and email. All of this has led to the need for home internet discounts that make costs for home internet less expensive.

More About Home Internet Discounts

Choosing an Internet Plan

It can be very confusing when it comes time to choose an internet plan. Depending on how you will use your internet at home, you may need what is known as a “hard-wire” system where your computer must be connected directly to the modem. In most cases, you will want to have what is known as wireless internet, more commonly called wi-fi. The type of internet can determine how much it will cost with wi-fi sometimes having a slightly higher monthly fee than hard-wired services. For this reason, finding home internet discounts can be very beneficial.

Finding Discounts

Employee discounts on internet are a great way to save money on your internet service at home. EmployeeandMemberDiscounts.com offers a wide range of employee discounts on internet that can save you a considerable amount of money. Some that are available include:

  • ATT internet employee discounts
  • Centurylink internet employee discounts
  • FiOS internet employee discounts
  • Spectrum internet employee discounts
  • Xfinity internet employee discounts

Often, companies offer discounts to employees so that they can monitor the service to be sure it is working properly. By offering Xfinity, Spectrum, FiOS, Centurylink or ATT internet employee discounts, the company knows that if there is a problem, an employee is going to notice it before a customer and may resolve the issue before paying customers even notice a problem. Centurylink internet employee discounts and those offered by other internet providers also promote retention and could increase sales as employees recommend the service to friends and family.

Creating a Discount Program

If you own a business or are part of an organization where Xfinity internet employee discounts or Spectrum internet employee discounts would be beneficial, consider creating your own discount program. These discounts along with FiOS internet employee discounts could save your employees or members money, helping them build a better financial future for their own family. Our dedicated perks experts can help you create a discount program that your staff or members will actually use.
